Hi My name is Kenneth Kelley (Ken to my friends) and I am the Principal of the Caloundra Music Academy. ©
I was introduced to teaching with the Primary school's Kids on Keyboards curriculum back in 1996 with the view of continuing for about 5 years. However, after a number of student's parents realized the benefits of learning a musical instrument (circa 2000), I was being asked to take on students in a 1 on 1 lesson environment.
THE HISTORY OF CALOUNDRA MUSIC ACADEMY
Initially I started out, as many teachers do, in the family home.
In 2004 it all became a bit much for my family and I was led by divine inspiration to open the Caloundra Music Academy at the Strand Complex in the heart of Caloundra.
We had our inaugural 'End of Year Concert' in 2005 with some 15 students performing on a variety of instruments.
In 2006 we moved as sub tenants to the premises at 28 Bowman Road, with 3 teaching rooms at our disposal to accommodate Drums, Strings and Piano/Keyboard.
In 2011 Caloundra Music Academy was given the opportunity to grow by taking over the lease to the premises on Bowman road and all the available area, which we did and stayed until it's demolition in May of 2015.
We currently use the music block of the Caloundra Christian College albeit we are a separate organisation. Current address is 7 Gregson Place Caloundra. 4551
In all of that I absolutely love what I do in education.
I have seen students go from almost giving music away to go on and record and perform their own compositions, students become instrumental teachers, 7 furthering their music studies at University of Qld or the Conservatory of Music with Bachelor of Music degrees. Some from the first concert in 2005.
In every student I see these same opportunities. I believe in each student and help them believe in themselves. I continue to teach Kids on Keyboards at primary schools as it opens opportunity to many students who may otherwise not get the opportunity to be involved with playing an instrument.
In 2011 Caloundra Music Academy was invited, via a student's mum, to apply for the instrumental teaching position with Caloundra Christian College, which has been on going since then. We also supply Vocal, Drum and Guitar Woodwind and Brass and Strings tuition for them.
I have stayed with the AMEB (Australian Music Examination Board) curriculum over the years teaching all three Piano/Keyboard series. Piano Forte, Piano For Leisure, and CPM (Contemporary Popular Music) all grades, preliminary through to Grade 8.
I also encourage students to take on Theory of Music or Music Craft theory. (latest release of international standard)
In October 2011 AMEB began utilizing our premises for holding exams and as of 2013 all of the major instruments, which we can no longer accommodate but it is part of our History.
I have enjoyed music since my VERY early years, have played in many bands, currently Hipster - German European and covers music + GYPSY fire (with the violinist - Imre Szabo)) specializing in Russian/Hungarian gypsy and latin american songs. We released an Album in 2001 which continues to sell well through CDbaby.com and venues we play. We are currently in rehearsal for number 2....more when it is close.
Yes music is my life, and I love encouraging others to partake
God bless
Ken Kelley
